John 18:1-19:42 Good Friday
Often with scripture we go to great lengths to explain the text through a morality story of our own or a metaphor to help us understand. Sometimes we just need to read the story for itself. Scripture has no problem standing on its own. Today is Good Friday. Today Jesus gives himself over to the legal and church authorities and be crucified. So today we read that story in the Gospel of John. Take your time. Read it slowly. Picture in your mind as best you can what is happening. This is one of the most detailed days in the life of Jesus and the disciples. Read it over and over if you like. Let the Holy Spirit lead you to a greater understanding of what is happening. Let the Spirit guide your reading. Today the world is plunged into its darkest hours. Lean into that reality. Easter is coming, but not yet. Today we face the reality of all that is done by us, for us, and to Jesus our Messiah.
